Counterfeit or not, it works!Jun 29, 2010
I had purchased this styler over a year ago so this is not some newbie review from someone who just opened the box. This straightener has truly changed my life.
I have fairly thick, wavy/curly hair which goes down to my mid-back. This straightener allows me to make my hair pin-straight in about 20 minutes where with other irons it was a 45-60 minute process. One quick pass of a 1" section does the trick, I don't have to iron the same section of hair over and over again. Also, the iron itself heats up in seconds, so there is barely any wait time. My hair never snags on this iron, it glides like silk. Now I will say that this iron gets very hot, so you want to move it through your hair quick. If your hair is thin, then the high heat may be a problem (but I never understood why anyone with thin hair would need to flat iron their hair - blow drying should be enough as ironing just takes out the fullness).
The only thing that I have NOT been able to do with this iron is to curl my hair. I followed their instructions but it only comes out straight. This doesn't really bother me that much as I purchased a straightener to straighten my hair. If I want curls, I use my hot rollers anyway.
I've read other reviews about Amazon not being an authorized seller and the irons being counterfeit. I don't know if mine is real or fake but I do know that it WORKS so I don't really care. I was nervous when first purchasing this, as it is a lot of money to spend on a styling device but now that I have been using it for over a year, I have absolutely no regrets.

The product was in perfect condition and works very well. Only issue I had was that shipping took FOREVER! Other than that, I'd definitely buy again from this user.

There's a small chip on the surface of the straightener that heats. It remains to be seen if this will be a problem. Also, not sure it was there when it was first opened.

I purchased the GHD IV Pure Styler in Dec. 2009 from Amazon directly not a second party seller. I tried to register this on the official GHD website. The date code was not recognized - a sign that this may be counterfeit. I contacted Amazon through an email and received a very quick response. They immediately sent another styler and a label for the return of the first GHD styler. I received the replacement GHD IV Pure Styler in 2 days with high hopes. Unfortunately, the date code for the replacement was not recognized either. I had emailed GHD in both instances and had not heard back from them. After 3 phone messages and multiple attempts, I finally got a hold of a customer service representative from GHD. I was told that Amazon.com USA is NOT an authorized seller of GHD products and could NOT be registered. With the high level of counterfeits, GHD cannot authenticate the styler at this time. If you do not buy from an authorized seller/retailer GHD will assume that the GHD styler you purchased is a counterfeit and will NOT register the styler or honor the warranty. Only Amazon.com UK is an authorized seller. Confusing, I know. There are other authorized online retailers. A complete list can be heard by calling the customer service number.
I just got off the phone with an Amazon.com representative. They were very apologetic and unaware of this issue. I was sent another email with a authorized return and shipping label. I wanted Amazon to be aware of GHD's policy and the fact that the GHD products they are selling are being treated as counterfeits by GHD.
So I guess the bottom line is buyer beware. I hope this helps someone else. I read all of the reviews and was wrongly assured that Amazon.com was an authorized retailer.

I bought the "Dark set" from Amazon.com It was $175.00 vs. paying almost $250.00 which was great for me! 6 days ago I bought this item, The e-mail said it would take 10 ten to get to my house but I revived it in 6 days, That was a plus.
It was the real thing, no fakeness on this item (Again I bought it from Amazon.com not any of the other web sight stores) I LOVE IT!
My air takes (no lie) 5 min's to get straighten now Me personally, I adore this item!
